TempMailbox exists for mail you do not intend to keep. This page marks the boundary of that, because the failures people run into with a throwaway address are all the same failure: they used one where a permanent mailbox was required.

One question decides it

Ask whether you might ever need this address to get back into something. Yes or maybe means use your real mailbox.

That rules out banks and payment accounts, tax and government portals, work, shipping, domain registration, cloud storage, and anything holding money or files you would miss. A recovery address has to outlive the account it protects, and every address issued here is built to expire, which is the opposite requirement. No support request rescues an account whose recovery address has ceased to exist.

A guest mailbox is not private

There is no password on a guest mailbox, so the address is the only thing standing between your mail and a stranger, and memorable addresses do get guessed by people typing likely words into our own front page. Treat guest mail as visible to others.

That is an acceptable trade for a discount code and a poor one for anything else. Mailboxes under a registered account are private to that account, but they still sit on a free advertising-funded service, which is not a secure channel and has never been offered as one.

Delivery is not guaranteed

Plenty of senders refuse mail to known disposable domains, and the lists they consult change weekly. A message may simply never arrive, and we usually have no way to know it was attempted. Nothing here can promise that a particular website will accept a particular address.

We do not check what arrives

Messages shown here were written by whoever sent them. We do not review them, endorse them, or vouch for any link, offer or attachment inside. Scripts and remote content are stripped before display, which removes the most common tracking, but no amount of stripping makes a hostile attachment safe or a fraudulent link honest.

The guides describe products we do not control

Most of this site explains how to run a mailbox at Gmail, Outlook, Apple, Proton and others. Those are other people's products, and they move menus, rename settings and change retention rules without telling anyone. A procedure that was accurate when written can go stale, so check what your provider's own screen says before doing anything irreversible, and tell us through the contact page when something has drifted.
